Maddox Creek Culvert Removal

Williamson Construction was awarded the contract to remove a ~250’ culvert in Maddox Creek in Mount Vernon, WA. The culvert was put in along with ~15,000 CY of fill in the 60’s when a roadway was penciled in to cross the creek. The county worked with the Department of Ecology and the City of Mount Vernon to fund the removal of the culvert, 15,000 CY of fill and restoration of the natural creek habitat. Project video Here

Removal of 15,000 CY of fill

The project required the removal of 15,000 CY of fill that had to come out of a ~70’ high 1.5:1 ravine. GPS and total station guidance with the original engineer drawings helped contour the new ravine.

Creek Restoration

Once the culvert was removed, specially designed streambed sediment was installed along with salvaged woody debris to provide a natural finish to the project.
